Course Chooser

We hope this page will help you choose a course that suits your level of ability - it always works out best when everyone is of a similar ability on a course - for you and the guide! For all our trips we try hard to ensure everyone is compatible - we won't sell you a course just to fill the space!

Remember that Private Guiding for skiing or climbing is suitable for all abilities and all group sizes.
If you are not sure what is best for you, please email us with your ideas, preferred course and experience/ability level and we will happily help you choose.

Rock Climbing

Our Monaco weekends are suitable for intro to intermediate climbers. You should have some indoor climbing experience as a minimum. It is a great venue for learning to lead outdoors or even your first outdoor climbing experience. With quality grade 3s next to 6b's it is an excellent venue . Let's not forget the sun, great views and glamour of Monaco either!

For our Sardinia weeks you should be able to second/toprope French grade 5b as a minimum (indoor or outdoor). Sardinia has a wealth of sport climbing (with bolts), multi pitch climbing and trad climbing (where you place your own natural protection - no bolts!). So the variety is huge and a low guiding ratio allows us to focus on what you want to do, at your level! Lots of sun and views too...

Ice Climbing

Our low ratios (1:2) mean that we can easily pair up climbers with similar ambitions and abilities. So the ice weekends and ice weeks are suitable for first timers/Intro to Expert. The venues around Chamonix and Cogne have great ice climbs at all difficulties. Ice climbing is physical - so it's best to be fit!

Alpine Climbing

Chamonix Intro - previous hillwalking/scrambling experience is all you need.

Mont Blanc - Intro, but hard work! Previous hillwalking experience is all you need (and good fitness).

Swiss 4000ers - Intro to Intermediate. Previous hillwalking experience is all you need and good fitness. We teach all required skills during the course but this course is more physically demanding, climbing more peaks than an Intro course.

Chamonix Classics - Intermediate through to Advanced. To get the most from this very flexible low ratio course you should be fit and have some previous alpine climbing experience to PD, such as our Chamonix Intro course.

Swiss Classics - Intermediate through to Advanced. This very flexible course tackles some big and committing peaks and requires previous alpine climbing experience at PD level, eg Intro or Intermediate level.

Eiger / Matterhorn - Intermediate to Advanced. Both these mountains require previous alpine climbing experience at an AD grade (intermediate) and good fitness. Chamonix Classics or Swiss Classics is an ideal course to build upto this week.

Skiing - it is always hard to describe skiing ability, so below is an over view. Please email us with your preferred course choice and a description of your ski level and experience and we will point you in the right direction!

Off Piste Clinics

Intermediate - for skiers who have tried their hand of the piste with varying success! You should be comfortable with skiing red runs on piste.

Perfection - for intermediate off piste skiers who can ski most snow most of the time, but want to be able to ski all snow and any snow! Intermediate clinics are a good build up to this course.

Backcountry Skiing Courses

Intro Weeks - You should be able to link turns in most kinds of snow off the piste and be fit enough to ski all day off piste with up to 1-2 hours hiking. We focus on learning all the essential backcountry skills for safe and efficient skiing, as well as great ski descents! Off piste clinics are a great build up to this week.

Adventure Weeks - As for the Intro week but you ski a bit more fluidly and can ski 30 degree slopes off piste. We focus more on the skiing, with teaching mostly ' while we ski' rather than structured sessions. The Intro week is a great build up to this week.

Taster Weekends - Minimum level as for the Intro week. Many skiers who have tried their hand off the piste will be suitable for this short course.

Ski Touring

Backcountry intro/adventure/taster courses are great build ups to our ski tours. For all ski tours you must be able to ski in all types of off piste snow and have previous day touring experience.

Gran Paradiso - Intro. This is great as a first multi day tour. Also suitable for those wanting a slightly less arduous tour but still ski lots of great peaks.

Bernese Oberland - Intermediate to Advanced. Big peaks and long days. You must have done a previous multi day ski tour such as the Gran Paradiso or Haute Route.

Haute Route - Intermediate. Long days. You must have previous day touring experience, but ideally will have previous multi day touring such as the Gran Paradiso tour.

Arctic Norway / Lyngen Alps - Intro to Intermediate right up to Expert (the skiing is awesome!). Previous day touring is a must and intermediate off piste skiing ability. Backcountry weeks are a great build up.
