Alaska Chugach Ski Tour
This exciting ski adventure must be in all backcountry skiers dreams. The Chugach mountains of Alaska hold some of the best terrain imaginable and definitely have the best snow imaginable.
Based out of Valdez, in Prince William Sound, we have six days of touring around the world famous Thompson Pass area - an area that has upwards of 600 inches of snow each winter. And you have a guide to break trail (and keep you safe and that sort of thing) - what could be better?
How it works
We meet in either Anchorage on Friday night or you meet us in Valdez (it has a small airport) on Saturday evening. We stay in a hotel in Valdez each night and we have a trusty 4x4 SUV to take us to the start of each day's tour - between 20-45 minutes drive. All the tours start roadside and usually involve upwards of 1000m of skinning.
We tackle long powder glades, gullies, couloirs and some glaciers too. This is world class backcountry skiing.
We have the option of 1 or 2 'heli-bumps' (at extra cost) to give us a head start for the day's tour or to get deeper.
Who is it for?
You should be an Advanced or Expert off-piste skier. Previous experience of day touring will help you prepare for and get the most out of this week. You need to be fit as we are skinning and skiing a long way each day (but with light packs as we return to the comforts of a hotel each night).
Friday: Arrive Anchorage/Seattle in the evening after transatlantic flight of the same day.
Saturday: Drive to Valdez (6 hours) with a possible short tour on the way. Settle in to hotel. (you can fly to Valdez from Seattle or Anchorage and meet us there if you wish).
Sunday - Friday: Epic ski touring, returning to our Valdez hotel each evening.
Friday PM: We drive back to Anchorage after skiing on Friday. (Or if flying from Valdez, stay there one last night)
Why not add on a week's Heli-Skiing?
This week dovetails nicely with our Alaska Heli Ski week. Alaska is a long way to go for just a weeks adventure, why not join us for this week too?
