Vanoise Steep Skiing

This epic week seeks out the best steep descents in the Vanoise. You will be visiting such classic areas as Val d'Isere, la Plagne, les Arcs, 3 Vallees and St Foy. All these places have superb steeps, couloirs and general off-piste and never fail to impress.

We will use a combination of uplifts, boot-packing and skinning to access the descents, with up to a couple of hours a day of uphill effort.

Who is it for?

This backcountry week is for any off piste skier keen to make the most of the Paradiski region (including Ste Foy).

This area really is huge and offers outstanding backcountry skiing, that is often untouched in comparison to the more famous Tarentaise resorts. Come and see for yourself!

We split the group into intermediate and advanced courses, so you will be with people with similar ambitions and ability whilst skiing. You should be an Intermediate or Advanced off-piste skier to get the most from these holidays.

You can expect to be skiing from first lift each day. Most days you can expect to do some uphill work to get to the descents. If this all sounds like hard work, don't worry! It's your holiday and the pace is up to you - but a sniff of fresh powder and it's often "maybe just one more run..."! If you have not 'bootpacked' or 'skinned' uphill before, don't worry we will teach you. Some days we have no uphill work and others we may be going uphill for 1-2 hours.

The itinerary for the week is tailor made to suit you, and the snow and weather conditions at the time. We will be making the most of the terrain and snow – it’s what we do best!

Arrive Peisey and settle into the Goat Shed and welcome by your Chalet hosts.

Unguided warm up day for you to find your skiing legs. We meet in the evening to discuss the plan for the week.

Monday to Friday:

5 guided days exploring the best the area has to offer. We will be looking to ski the north face of the

ellecote, the back of the Aiguilles Rouges, the Roche Mio, the back of Ste Foy and as much trees and

backcountry lines we can find. We certainly won't run out of good terrain!

Course Detail
Price: £1175
Approx: €1,612.15 / $1,807.83
Ability level: Advanced
I can link, without traversing, at least 10-15 short or long radius turns off piste in any kind of snow. I have good control and choose where to turn most of the time. The thought of fresh powder excites me and I enjoy the challenge of difficult snow. I can sideslip forwards and backwards, sidestep up and down, and can ski 35-40 degree slopes. I ski off piste whenever I can and enjoy skiing far from the lifts/pistes.
Fitness Level: B
I can ski all day with only short breaks and can hike up to 2 hours a day (600m of uphill) at a reasonable pace. I exercise at least twice a week if not more for minimum one hour. I will run, cycle, swim and enjoy regular cardio. I am happy to suffer for a little while, so that i can enjoy a few well earned beers after!

You'll be pleased to hear that I made it through the meetings this morning with my group and director with no mention of goggle marks - clearly the factor 30 paid off! On a serious note, thank you all so much for a wonderful time in Chamonix, I had a great time on (and in) the snow and wish I could have stayed another week. I'm not sure pistes will cut the mustard any longer so I will have to come back next year for round two.
