Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base camp trek is perhaps the most famous trek in the world and justifiably so. The trek takes in some of the most famous mountain scenery in the world passing the beautiful Ama Dablam on route to Everest itself. It combines scenery, culture religion and of course your own personal effort. It’s a trek that’s shouldn’t be missed and it never fails to impress.. This year we trek in with Kenton Cool and our Everest Summit team.

We follow a specific, tried and tested acclimatisation regime that allows us to safely ascend to the lofty heights of Base Camp at 5300m and then ultimately spend a night at Base Camp itself mixing with our very own climbing team and experiencing what it feels like to be climbing Everest itself.

The adventure starts in the city of Kathmandu, where we will be met at the airport before being transported to our lovely quiet Hotel that oozes charm and friendliness. Kathmandu is a city of many things: wondrous sights, culture, religion, history, good food, noise and fun. For first timers it can be quite an assault on the senses but the quiet tranquillity of our hotel provides a welcome retreat to rest from the flight and fun of the City..

Once rested, we take the famous flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. A real 'heart in the mouth' moment on landing will put us at the start of our adventure, a 20 day round trip to Base Camp. We really do follow in the footsteps of Hillary and Tenzing as we make our way slowly through the Khumbu passing tiny villages dwarfed by the towering mountains around. Just before Base Camp we climb Kala Pattar (5550m). Although a non-technical mountain, its gives ‘the view’ of Everest, but also provides great views of Lhoste, Nupste and Makalu, the true mountain giants of the World.

It’s a trip not to be missed. It's a trip of dreams and wonder that will stretch all of us but, ultimately leave us wanting more.

Who is if for?

The Everest Basecamp trek suits those who are keen walkers, each day is normally 4-5hrs of walking, and each member only carries a light (5-6kg) Rucksack. The walking is not overly strenuous and the path is normally very good although it can be rocky.

The itinerary is our tried and tested one that will allow all of us plenty of time to acclimatize, thus giving us maximum chance of completing the trek.

All members have their personal equipment carried by our porters, we would expect people to have 10-12kg of equipment each, this excludes the small rucksack that we each carry with us each day

Accommodation is in the Sherpa teahouses and Lodges all the way. These are modern to begin with but become a little more basic the further into the Khumbu we venture. They are always welcoming and warm with a selection of drinks (including fizzy soft drinks) and great food.

The typical lodge will have twin rooms for sleeping and a large communal area for dinning and hanging out in that will have a stove that will be lit in the evenings. Over the years we have built a great relationship with the owners of these lodges and we consider them now friends

All do have running water and clean toilet facilities.
