Arctic Norway / Lyngen Alps Ski Touring Waking up to a hearty breakfast before embarking on the high speed 'Spirit of Lyngen' to race across the fjords to our ski destination for the day is a great way to start our remote arctic ski mountaineering trip. Skinning from a beach drop off to an island mountain summit, followed by superb untracked snow to our pick up at the sea really is an amazing experience. This topped off with relaxing in the hot tub afterwards, followed by a delicious meal and stunning views really gives a great mix of well deserved comfort and remote, physical and very good ski touring...Have a look at our photos from last years trip... We stay in Lyngen Lodge, 2,5 hours north east of Tromso (well into the Arctic) on the Lyngen peninsula which holds many great mountains upto about 1500m and has several neighbouring mountainous islands. The skiable terrain here is vast with peaks and slopes to suit every off piste skier. There is also tree skiing in case the weather is bad! | Price: £2395 Course Only: n/a Ratio: 1:6 guide:client Level: Intermediate Dates: 20th to 27th March 2010

Meet: We meet Saturday in Tromso airport where we are met by our transfer to the lodge. We return to Tromso airport the following Satrurday morning (2.5 hrs) to catch our flights home. Who is it for? You will love this trip if you have done some ski touring before, enjoy off piste skiing (but you don't need to be an expert - there is terrain here to suit everyone) and like a bit of comfort and luxury afterwards! Its a great combination of remote physical ski touring, earning your turns, in amazing terrain without the hardships of expedition living... How much hard work is it? We skin between 1100m and 2000m every day for six days to reach our peaks and access the goods. However, starting at sea level there is no altitude effect and so is easier going than in the alps. It feels like skinning 1000m a day in the alps. Our packs are light as we return to the lodge each evening Other info the lodge takes credit cards to pay for evening drinks and any incedentals. There is good mobile phone reception and wifi internet, so feel free to bring your laptop, Getting there Norwegian.no fly direct from Stanstead to Tromso and sas.com fly from a number of airports to Tromso usually via Oslo (a short connection). Any questions? email us with any questions about this trip... Kit List skis with touring bindings - we reccommend skis that you will enjoy skiing on, but are not too heavy, eg Rossignol B3 with fritschi bindings. Skins and ski crampons. Poles - NOT collapsable Boots - these must fit and be comfortable. We feel it is best not to rent boots. Rather buy some and have them fitted professionally - this will make your week much more comfortable, fun and blister free! 'Fit' is more important than whether a boot is 'stiff enough' or not. I use a touring boot that is designed to ski well, rather than ultra light. Rucksack - 40-50l. with ski straps Waterbottle - not platypus type - they freeze and leak. Transciever, probe, shovel, harness 2 pairs sunglasses, goggles, sunhat, sunscreen, lip salve/block 3 sets socks and light coloured thermal tops Lightweight goretex top/bottoms, warm hat, thick gloves, thin gloves (when skinning) Insulating layers. I use a thin '100' weight fleece and a synthetic or down duvet jacket. Take an extra warm layer compared to what you would wear in the alps. Personal first aid - blister kit, ibuprofen. camera clothes for the lodge (like staying in a chalet) Swimming suit for the hot tub Remember kit should be lightweight but functional - you have to carry it!
