Paradiski Backcountry Skiing Week off piste skiing further into the backcountry This week is all about the skiing. As much of the best snow and terrain that we can find...fresher, further from the crowds. Who is it for? This backcountry week is for any off piste skier keen to make the most of the Paradiski region (including Ste Foy). This area really is huge and offers outstanding backcountry skiing, that is often untouched in comparison to the more famous Tarentaise resorts. Come and see for yourself! You should be able to ski in most offpiste snow types, linking turns - contact us if you are unsure. If you have not 'bootpacked' or 'skinned' uphill before, don't worry we will teach you. Some days we have no uphill work and others we may be going uphill for 1-2 hours. You can expect to be skiing from first lift each day. Most days you can expect to do some uphill work to get to the descents. If this all sounds like hard work, don't worry! It's your holiday and the pace is up to you - but a sniff of fresh powder and it's often "maybe just one more run..."! Meet: You arrive in resort on Saturday afternoon and settle into the Goat Shed. Sunday you have a free skiing day unguided and your guide will meet you after skiing at the Goat Shed to prepare for the next 5 days adventure. We finish up Friday after skiing. We recommend you get a return flight on Saturday. Chalet Accommodation in Peisey - we stay in The Goat Shed, a lovely traditional savoyarde building refurbished to a high standard. Peisey itself is a traditional alpine village full of charm perfectly situated between les Arcs and la Plagne. Half board accommodation includes breakfast, afternoon tea and full evening meal. One night a week we eat out. Check out their website here Typical Itinerary Sunday - Unguided warm up day for you to find your skiing legs. We meet in the evening Monday to Friday - 5 guided days exploring the best the area has to offer. We will be looking to ski the north face of the Bellecote, the back of the Aiguilles Rouges, the back of Ste Foy and as much trees and backcountry lines we can find. We certainly won't run out of good terrain! We may have to change this itinerary according to the prevailing weather and conditions (and we like to take into account your ambitions too!) | Price: £950 Course Only: n/a Ratio: 1:6 guide:client Level: Intro to Expert Dates: Feb 6th - 13th 2010

Kit List skis with touring bindings - we recommend skis that you will enjoy skiing on, but are not too heavy, eg Rossignol B2 with fritschi bindings. With skins and ski crampons. You can bring your regular set up too and hire touring skis in resort as required for individual days. Poles - NOT collapsable Boots - these must fit and be comfortable. We feel it is best not to rent boots. Rather buy some and have them fitted professionally - this will make your week much more comfortable, fun and blister free! 'Fit' is more important than whether a boot is 'stiff enough' or not. I use a touring boot that is designed to ski well, rather than ultra light. You can also use your regular ski boots. Rucksack - 30l. with ski straps Waterbottle - not platypus type - they freeze and leak. Transciever, probe, shovel, crampons, ice axe, harness, 1 screw gate karabiner sunglasses, goggles (2 pairs useful after a wipeout), sunhat, sunscreen, lip salve/block Regular ski wear, including spare gloves and thin gloves for skinning in. Personal first aid - blister kit, ibuprofen. Remember kit should be lightweight but functional - you have to carry it! We can help with equipment rental in Resort.
